The Academic Senate is the primary governing body at Illinois State University and provides for faculty and student participation in academic governance. The Academic Senate is the primary body to recommend educational policy of the University and to advise the President on its implementation. The Academic Senate fills an administrative role occupied by personal conferences from the founding of Illinois State University to 1951 when the University Council was established. The Academic Senate has been an integral part of the evolution of Illinois State University’s governance since 1970 when it replaced the University Council. More information about the history of the Academic Senate may be found in Article I of its bylaws.
This site is a contact point for members of the Academic Senate. It also serves as a method of transparent governance that permits access to the process of the Academic Senate. Also, it is an archive for reference for much of the history and operation of Academic Senate. Additional archival documents may be found in the ISUReD, the institutional repository for Illinois State University at Milner Library.
